Are You a Quitter?

I have finally quit fully leaded coffee (mostly!)

But there's a snag. Decaf. How can I put it? - just doesn't taste as good...

Do you have any suggestions for decent tasting decaf? I'd love to know :)

Quitting.

It's not a word we often celebrate.

What words spring to mind when you think of quitting? Failure is a common one...

...But.

In light of Jacinda Arden stepping down, perhaps it's time for a rethink.

After all, we have a limited time on the planet. It is worth working out what best to do with this time we are given.

We can't do everything and keep sane. As Arden says in her resignation speech - we are, all of us, human.

So something has to give.

If that thing isn't going to be us, then something else has to go. We need to set boundaries, and quitting certain things is sometimes part of this process.

Cognitive biases can trip us up too.

The 'status quo bias' encourages us to persevere when we should stop. My sense is this is pretty common in medics.

We have spent years investing in our careers and hence are not keen on too much career disruption.

But, it doesn't always have to be as dramatic as quitting our job role as Arden has done.

It could be smaller.

A tweak.

Or a series of tweaks.

How about that weekly committee meeting?

Does it have to be weekly? Does it have to be an hour long? Does it have to be you attending?

Or you could quit something else. Like me. I am quitting or, more precisely, tweaking my emails.

Some of my emails haven't been reaching you lovely lot, as they have been bounced by pesky servers.

So I have tweaked my email -

Instead of getting emails from theworkingwellexperience@gmail.com, Thrive Well News will now come from katya@workingwelldoctor.com

Contact me on my shiny new email and let me know- what you have decided to quit recently?
