How well can you adapt?

Hi guys

What a week we’ve had -

Not the easiest I imagine, from Kier Starmer’s perspective.

Fear not - I’m not going to dive into political commentary - I’m sure you have your newsfeed and favourite podcasts for all that.

And then there’s this heatwave...

All this upheaval has got me thinking.

It is easy to feel alone when you have to navigate a change -

It could be

  • Wondering where to go in your career

  • Illness

  • Recent confirmation of Neurodivergence

  • Working without melting in our current heatwave

  • Or something else

If this week has shown anything, it’s that you are not alone.

I'd go so far as to say, it’s pretty unusual to get through a whole working life without at least one such crunch point.

How do we cope?

We adapt.

Humans are great at this.

It's not easy, it can be slow and messy.

But it works.

Gradually.

The key is, you have to stick at it long enough.

This brings to mind the Desert fox - the one with the gorgeous ears.

Except the ears aren’t there to look cute.

They are an adaptation to the heat of its desert home.

These foxes have evolved bat like ears to radiate heat and keep the fox cool.

Those foxes with the bigger ears, did better in the heat and reproduced more.

They adapted and survived.

And we can too.

We just need to do what the foxes did - try something (bigger ears). Suceed. Stick with it.

And accept that sometimes we will try other options (smaller ears) which won’t work out so well. No biggie. Ditch that idea and carry on.

What have you tried out this week that went well?

What have you tried that didn't work out?

Let me know your thoughts, I love hearing from you.

Till next time,

Take Care

Katya
